The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is awarded in any Subject
in which provision for postgraduate studies and/or Research is available at
the University.

Eligibility for Registration
A candidate for admission to the course for the degree of Doctor
of Philosophy must have obtained at least a 2nd Class Master's Degree
(two years duration) with a minimum of 50% marks preceded by either an
Honours or a Pass Degree with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and
also in the subject concerned or in any subject allied thereto provided
that a candidate having a 2nd Class Bachelor degree from a University and
where there is no Honours Course be also considered. Bachelor’s degree course,

Pass or Honours should be of at least 3 years duration.

Provided, however, that the candidate who have qualified the National level test

conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR/IIT for award of research fellowships will be

eligible for Ph.D. Studentship.

An employee of the University may register herself/himself as a
Ph. D. candidate provided that she/he satisfies the criteria of
qualification stated above. Provided further that there be a need, B.O.S.
may have a qualifying assessment.

The candidate shall apply in the prescribed form for admission to the
Adhyaksha (Principal) of the Institute concerned.

Procedure for Registration
Every application for registration shall be forwarded by the Adhyaksha
(Principal) of the Institute concerned to the Chairman of the Patha Samiti
(Board of Studies) concerned. All applicant should appear before the
BOS concerned for interview. The Patha Samiti (Board of Studies) shall
recommend the applications to the Research Board on the basis of the
assessment of Research aptitude of the candidate interviewed. The
Patha Samiti (Board of Studies) shall recommend the name(s) of the
Supervisor(s). At the time of registration/re-registration a candidate
shall pay Rs. 500/- only as fee.

A candidate permitted for Ph. D. registration/re-registration by the
Research Board shall enroll herself/himself for registration/re-registration
within six months from the date of notification by the Deputy Registrar
(Academic & Research). The date of registration will, however, be effective
from the date of their payment of registration fees.

Provided that Research Scholars working in research schemes are
ordinarily required to apply for registration within three months of their
joining the University.

Residential Requirements
All Ph. D. Students shall normally be resident. They may, however,
be admitted as day-scholars provided they reside in an adjacent area
from where they can be in touch with Supervisor/ Supervisors and also
attend the University library/ laboratory regularly.

In case of teacher candidates however, the residential criteria will be
applicable for 100 days a year in the campus notwithstanding the
stipulations mentioned above and subject to further condition that she/he
shall normally meet the Supervisor(s) at least once in three months.

The research scholars and research staff attached to the Research
Institutes recognised by the UGC, ICAR, ICMR, CSIR, ICSSR, DST, DAE,
ICHR, ICPR and other Government agencies/Institutes be allowed the
same residential criteria.

Leave for a maximum of 30 days in a year in addition to general holidays
may be granted to a Ph. D. student by the Head of the Department and
the Adhyaksha (Principal) of the Institute concerned on the
recommendation of the Supervisor(s). The Adhyaksha (Principal) on the
recommendation of Supervisor and HOD may permit leave on medical
ground beyond 30 days. However, fellowship holders will be governed
by the leave rules of the respective funding agencies. Any absence
without leave shall be regarded as a breach of discipline.
