Gourgopal Ghosh (1893-1940)

Gourgopal Ghosh was a student of Santiniketan in its early years. A football player of repute, he donned colours for the famous Mohan Bagan club of Calcutta. After his graduation from the Scottish Church College, he joined Santiniketan as a teacher of Mathematics. In a letter to C. F. Andrews, dated 9 July 1917, Rabindranath wrote, "Our former student and a veteran of Calcutta football fields, Gora has taken up the work of a teacher of Mathematics, and I am sure he will prove to be a valuable acquisition to us."

In 1926, he accompanied Rabindranath on his visit to Europe. Gourgopal saw for himself the workings of cooperative societies in Italy and other European countries. Next year he joined Sriniketan and served the institute in various capacities. He was in the managing committee of the Central Cooperative Bank of Visva-Bharati since its establishment in 1927. He also served Silpa Sadan for sometime.
