SIKSHA BHAVANA
(Institute of Science)

Siksha Bhavana (Institute of Science) was originally an under-graduate college for teaching Humanities subjects, which during 1961-63 was expanded to include in its curriculum B.Sc. (Hons.) courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany. The M.Sc. programme in these subjects was introduced in 1968. Finally in 1972, due to reorgnisation of the course of studies in the Humanities and Science subjects, all the Science Departments teaching under-graduate and post-graduate courses were brought under Siksha Bhavana, which is now known as Institute of Science.

Siksha Bhavana now offers three year B.Sc. (Hons.) courses in seven subjects, viz, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Botany and Zoology and two year M.Sc. courses in six subjects viz, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Botany and Biotechnology and a three year MCA course in Computer & System Sciences.

Although relatively young, Siksha Bhavana has earned national and international recognition, thanks to the sincere efforts of dedicated teachers and students over the last two decades. In spite of inadequate infrastructural facilities, advanced courses in Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences have been developed. Several research projects in the front line areas of science are in progress.

Several national and international seminars, schools and workshops including the First Indo-US Workshop on Mathematical Chemistry have been organised successfully during the last five years with support from DST, UGC, INSA, CSIR, DAE and other national agencies.
