The Cheena Bhavana library has one of the most valuable collection in Visva-Bharati. Although officially the Cheena Bhavana library along with the Bhavana was opened in 1937, the acquisition of books and other documents had started earlier. Among the rare books in this library are the Hwang-Chi’ing Ching-Chiai, a collection of Commentaries of Chinese Canons of the Chi’ing Dynasty (1644-1910 A.D.), Tzu-Chih Tunga-Chien, the Chinese government Annuals, from the Chou Dynasty to the Sund dynasty (771 B.S-960 A.D), 24 different editions of the Chinese Tripitaka. The library in Hindi-Bhavana was started in 1939 and has 26376 books. This is also an excellent library where autographed books by Mahadevi Verma, Sumitranandan Pant, Suryakant Tripathi’Nirala’, Premchand, Benarsidas Chaturvedi and Hazariprasad Dwivedi are preserved along with books on Hindi literature and books on various subjects in Hindi. There is a rich collection of journals, old and contemporary.
The Kala Bhavana library has 13738 books and is one of the best art history libraries in India. The Haridas Mira collection and the Sujata Roy collection are worth mentioning. The Palli Samgathana Vibhaga started functioning in 1927. The library has more than 43000 volumes. Service is provided to its 867 registered users. Library exension service is rendered to 6 Village library centres/Feeder libraries through Chalantika and the Area Library Unit of the PSV library. Grants are received from the Raja Rammohan Roy Foundation. The Palli Siksha Bhavana library serves the Institute of Agricultural Science and the Institute of Rural Reconstruction at Sriniketan. Here are over 34000 books and 611 users. The Patha Bhavana library or the Samindra Sisu Pathagar is one of the school libraries. It has 26726 books and has rich collection of children literature. The Sangit Bhavana is attached to the Music school and has 27119 books. The
Siksha Bhavana library caters to the needs of the students and The Siksha Satra library with over 14000 books belongs to the second school in Visva-Bharati and is situated in Sriniketan. The Vinaya Bhavana library is attached to the Education department of Visva-Bharati, has 20679 books.
